The people of this area are very friendly, cooperative and obedient to the task. Although the annual rainfall is very low and every third year they have famine and drought, still people and cheerful and happy. Naturally they are hardy and healthy. Being hard and self-sufficient people, they live very simple life and their major food is the bread prepared from bajra (millet) and curry prepared from moth (lentil) and curd.

The people of Jaisalmer are extra-ordinarily famous for their hospitality. They are very much courteous, helping, polite and honest. Every year they face the famines and drought, but even though their living standard, cultural and social activities are not less than any other Rajasthani. The Marwaris who are the famous traders of India residing in Bombay, Calcutta, Chennai come from this region of Rajasthan. This shows their wit that they went penniless to Calcutta, Bombay, Assam and Orissa and by their knowledge of business they are holding the major economy of India.

People being very simple and honest one can see real India visiting the neighbouring villages. Their houses are very clean, plastered with cow-dung and decorated with floral designs designed with the help of Khadiya (calcium). Even they have a tank to store rain water and another tank to store Bajra and Moth. Their pots, the locally made potteries are worth admirable. In a village which could be typical, one can see the potter and weaver. The people wear very colorful dresses and decorate their mustache and bread very carefully.
