Pokran is situated about 100 kms before Jaisalmer on National Highway No. 15 while going there from Jodhpur or Bikaner.

A historic fortified town with a rising castle in the center of it. Some earlier settlement existed here since the fifteenth century and remained either in possession of the Bhatis Jaisalmer or the rulers of Bikaner. But it was acquired by Rao Maldev of Marwar (1532-1584), who dismantled a Bhati fortress. The fort and the picturesque cenotaphs of Pokran rulers are worth a visit. The building material is much resembling that a Bikaner’s red sandstone. From Pokran only, the yellow rock begins.

You will see an unbelievable gleam of water stretching as far the eye can see. Thorn trees, hills, sand piles, shrubs and a camel rider reflect in the gentle waves. The mirage, an amazing magic of the desert seen here.
