Mandir Palace, Jaisalmer
Adjoining to Amarsagar gate which is one of the main entrances to the town, is Mandir Palace built during the period of Moolraj-II. The most important palaces are Badal vilas, Jawahar Vilas, Dari Khana and Zenana Mahal.
Badal Vilas which is also known as Tazia tower, has a tapering tower was gifted to the Maharawal by the local silawats or artisans. A double corniced frieze supports the arcaded rectangular balcony, while the structure in between is surmounted by a turret.
Jawahar Vilas was built by Maharawal Jawahar Singh (AD 1914-49). The nave has a prominent jharoka (balcony) in the center, decorated on both sides by fretwork railings and newel on the staircase. There is a similar parapet perpendicular to the lateral wing. Diaper motifs, grills and orioles are carved on the walls. The Jawahar Vilas, once used as a reception room, has grand silver furniture and family portraits in oil, on the walls. The royal insignia with the genealogy is engraved on the façade of the building.
